Introduction

Quite nice selection of alsace wine houses on display. Too many people and too little time though. Would have been better to attend the afternoon session for the trade. But one also has to work, alas. Notes are very brief and not entirely void of mistakes for this very reason. Also, did not bring my notebook and the notes I scribbled on the catalogue were jus plain hard to decipher afterwards.

    a nose that literally overwhelms you with sweet rum-raisin aromas:a bit like tripping and falling into the bustier of a very old female relative whose loss of olfactory senses has misled her into believing that her perfume spray has lost its strength and therefore feels the need to compensate by emptying the whole bottle around her neck.

    nice dry fresh riesling - with a side note of petroleum that borders on something I would describe as medicinal, if it didn't sound so horrible. It detracts, but all in all this is a decent wine.

    In the fat and sweet style with all that tropical fruit - and just a nose that is irresistible, even for someone with as little patience for sweet gewurztraminers as I.

    A bit flat perhaps, but in the fantastically charming way an old champagne will feel, or a chablis grand cru just a year or two over the hill. Round and nutty (sesame seed and hazelnuts).

    fine; great freshness and a wine that is tightly knit and balanced with more than a hint of honey sweetness, with white flowers and tropical fruit, cloudberry, bitter oranges.

    Note: bought one of these and had in 1 april 2012.

    One of the two wines of the night. Complex, mineral, wet earth, white flowers, long and elegant. I could drink only this for a long time.

    Dry, strict but elegant and with a long finish. This is a wine that I think would be better off not being compared to a lot of sweet super fragrant siblings at a wine fair with too many people and too little time. Still, in the noice and generally horrible surroundings, it came across as quite something extra. Should be one of the best food wines of the evening.

    had this been tasted blind, I would have guessed the cheap kind of apple cider one can buy at the local grocery store for less money than milk.

    Not a bad wine by any means, there is some fine fruit. Just that it defines the less than good pinot blanc which all too often is the norm. Flat and sweet.

    Very nice nose with a lot of complexity. But lacking in acidity and structure. A clear step up from the entry level wines. but still not enough.

    very elegant, fine and light on the tongue, no fat tropical punch. Dry and long finish, which embraces the palate and prepares it for fine dining.

    Fabulous. This has all the width and fruit complexity on the nose, comparable with vendanges tardives style gewurzes. At the same time, this is very dry and light and elegant. The only Gewurz that felt food friendly tonight. WOTN.

Closing

Quite a variety with a heavy emphasis on simple, and correct, if a bit boring wines for everyday drinking. Yann Beyers wine were great. The haut de gamme from Marcel Deiss were showing equally well.
