Introduction
The theme was minimum $25 price point, blind, and we tried to have people bring a variety of reds. I would describe this as single blind plus, as we did not have a list of wines or regions, only the main varietal. There were 13 wines in the main lineup and one bonus to finish the night off in style.

I felt pretty lucky this night bringing the WOTN and matching up 11 of 13 wines. Sometimes things just go right! The WOTN was the 2005 Glaetzer Shiraz. #2 was the 2005 Duca Di Croce Brunello and #3 was the Siduri Pinot. Thanks to everyone for making this and entertaining and educational evening. Tasting blind really is a lot of fun, and often quite humbling!
2004 Château Tour Leognan Blanc 86 Points
France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Palegreen yellow color. Muted nose of mixed citrus, grass. Palate is tart citrus, fair acidity, light. Not complex, short finish. pleasant, but not compelling.

2007 Tierra Alta Carménère Reserva 87 Points

Bright purple red in color. Nose is very herbal with prominent eucalyptus, very fruity-red fruit, yet somewhat green. Palate shows some earth, red fruits. I will be the first to admit that I RARELY find a carmenere that I can tolerate. This did get better with time in the glass, mellowing the herbal aspects into a bit more balance and became drinkable for me. For those who enjoy carmenere, this is a decent one. But not a wine I would ever buy.

2005 Glaetzer Shiraz Bishop 93 Points

Purple color. Nose shows plum, blackberry, blueberry, subtle earth that becomes more prominent, meat, leather, and some florals later. Palate is concentrated, great fruit profile with a nice balance of spice and pepper. Very long finish. A wonderful wine. My and group WOTN by a landslide.

2008 Bodega Numanthia Toro Termes 88 Points

Dark red color. Dark red fruits, raspberry, black cherry, spice, oak. Palate is consistent with medium body, prominent tannins and short peppery finish. This was one of the two I got wrong tonight.

2006 Karl Lawrence Aldin Red Table Wine 91 Points

Dark red color. Nice nose that evolved even more over the evening: floral, plum, blackberry, mulberry, cedar. Palate is full bodied and nicely balanced with a good finish. Very enjoyable. My and group's 4th place wine. 90-91pts.

Lighter red color. Nose shows cedar, spice, muted red fruits, mostly cherry. Palate of cherry, spice, high acidity, firm tannins.

Medium dark red. Floral with funk, leather, dust, earth. Medium in body, prominent acidity and moderate tannins. Very good. My #2 and group #2 WOTN.

2008 Tommasi Ripasso Valpolicella 90 Points

Medium red color. Nice earth on the nose, clearly an old world wine, cherry, spice. Palate is round with oak and nice tannic structure. Long finish. Very solid.

Medium dark red. Color was a bit lighter than expected. Nose has nice earth, dark red fruited, florals, spice. palate consistent with red fruits, oak, peppery finish. 89-90pts.

2008 Rombauer Vineyards Zinfandel California 79 Points

Dark red color. Nose has some earth, alcohol, dark red fruits. palate is very sweet, red fruits. alcohol. This might be one of the worst zins I've had in recent memory. I had this at a store tasting around Christmas and I wasn't crazy about it, but I could drink it. For me this was undrinkable. My score was generous IMO.

Medium red color. Nice nose of floral notes, raspberry, cherry, strawberry, and earth. Very nice on the palate, elegant, well balanced. Spices on the finish. Very nice wine. 91-92pts. My #3 and group #3 WOTN.

Dark red color. Well, this was other mistake of the night. Nice wine, cherry, earth. palate has nice balance and good finish. Did not strike me as aged Brunello though. Oh well.

Dark red color. Blackberry and black cherry on the nose with prominent oak. Palate has black fruit, oaky, spicy. decent finish. Would not pay anywhere near 50 for this, maybe 20. 88+pts.

Dark yellow color. Nose is lovely with lemon, minerals, citrus, orange peel. Palate has nice roundness, good structure and balance of acid, sweetness, and fruit. Very nice capper to the evening.
