Introduction
Kevin and I went to Winestreets to pick up some deals and sampled a few at his house before heading back to buy more. Not a productive work day but we got some nice deals.
2003 Clos l'Église (Côtes de Castillon) 88 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux
A nice everyday Bordeaux wine. On the nose floral, cranberry, gravel and cherry. The palate is much of the same but after an hour I did pick up a buttery note. Average acidity.
Day 2: Similar to day one with a little more of a spice quality. Overall a smooth wine at this stage.

2003 Clos Dubreuil 94 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Medium color. This was good right out of the bottle but with an hour it opened up even more. Beautiful aromas of floral, tobacco, minerals, wood, tar and cherries. On the palate I picked up bacon along with wood, floral, tobacco, tar and great minerality. Medium finish and good acidity.
Sampling on day 2 reveals how much time this has left in the cellar which I predict ten plus years. The fruit is showing a bit more and still firm tannins.
What wonderful wine. 93-95 points

2000 Elio Altare Barolo 93 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
This is the second vintage I have sampled of this wine and the 2000 is better than the 04 at this stage of the game. Floral, raspberry, minerals, leather and lavender. A really fragrant wine and the palate is delicious. I picked up some nice spice notes over the course of an hour. I will like to see what Kev thinks of this wine on day 2. A smashing success! 93-94.

2000 Bosquet des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Chante Le Merle Vieilles Vignes 90 Points
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
This started out promising and was originally a 92 point wine but it seemed to fall apart after an hour. Rustic, floral, Garrique, leather and bacon notes on the nose and palate. I would advise pop and pour of this wine and consume in a shorter period of time with a group. Not sure what others are seeing at this point but I would be interested. I will split the difference on scores as 92 up front and 88 later on.

2005 Mitolo Shiraz Reiver 90 Points
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Really not my style of Aussie Shiraz however it got a lot better in the glass over some time. Blueberries, dust, floral and cherry. A real light style from Australia. I will be interested if Kev found improvement in day 2.

2008 Château Belle-Vue (Haut-Médoc) 87 Points

This had been opened 5 days prior to sampling but I was amazed at how much fruit was still present. Cherry, plum, dust and floral notes. While a simplre Bordeaux wine I would certainly make this an everyday drinker as it was a WTSO special.
