Introduction

Khamen was in town on an extended layover returning to England from his business trip to Hawaii. That naturally required the CT Texas Group to get together and share a few bottles. The theme for the evening was American Whites in order to introduce Khamen to some harder to acquire white wines from The Colonies. As is typical with this group a few off theme bottles just happened to jump into the mix. Here are the results:

Flight 1 - A little bubbly at the hotel before heading to the restaurant... (1 Note)

    Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout with medium and steady beading. Nose of yellow pears, yellow apples and a touch of brioche. Flavors of yellow pears, yellow apples and a dash of lemon zest on the medium finish. Medium to bright acidity, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold over the next 3-5 years.

    Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of camphor, apricot, a hint of grass and a bit of graham cracker. Flavors of yellow pears, lemon, lime and apricot. Medium to bright acidity, medium body. Drink over the next two years.

    Tasted non blind. Opened and served about two hours later. Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of melted black licorice, florals, currants, tobacco and a hint of caramel. Flavors of berries, cherries and currants. Medium acidity, medium tannins, medium to full bodied. Hold. This bottle was lagging a little behind from what was expected.

    Garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose starts with a bit of leather followed by aromas of berries and some mixed floral elements. Rich berry flavor on the palate with added notes of black cherries. Medium acidity, medium tannins, medium to full bodied. Drink over the next 3-5 years.

Flight 4 - And finally a little sweet to wrap things up... (1 Note)

    Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately (had to push the extremely dry cork into the bottle and then decant through a filter prior to serving).

    Amber color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of lychee, almonds, spice and tropical fruits. Flavors of lychee, simple syrup and nuts. Medium acidity, medium body. Drink or hold. Not rated. This wine underperformed compared to bottle with solid provenance.
