Introduction
I taught a class with Dave at Afton House and wanted to get a quality wine school started at one of the restaurants in town. We had a rock start lineup for just $35 per person and included appetizers. Try and dine out for $35 with these wines.
2008 Hermann J. Wiemer Riesling HJW Vineyard 91 Points
USA, New York, Finger Lakes, Seneca Lake
One of the best New Rieslings I have tasted. Very dry with floral, orange peel, subtle minerality and good acidity profile. Medium finish and a very balanced wine.

2007 Merry Edwards Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 92 Points

Outstanding effort that just kept changing in the glass. Smoke, cranberry, orange, strawberry and more. I would decant this wine at least 2 hours next time as it was tight on the first pour.

2005 Bodegas Resalte de Peñafiel Ribera del Duero Crianza 93 Points

A great wine with cherry, dust, minerals, leather and earth. Bright fruit and drinking well after a 30 minute decant. One of the better Ribera values.

2003 Château d'Issan Blason d'Issan 90 Points

Drinking well right now with cigar, earth, mild funk, minerals and coffee. Balanced wine and medium finish. Should drink well for another decade. Solid 2nd wine of D'Issan.

2009 Durigutti Malbec 90 Points

Everything you would expect from a Malbec with blackberries, spice, minerals and sweet cherries. Medium and concentrated finish. Drinking well now!

2005 Saint-Laurent Syrah mrachek vineyards 89 Points
USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Wahluke Slope
Fun wine to drink and while not the most structured wine it has some cherry, plum, spice and subtle oak coming together. Medium finish.
