This was really punching above its level. The cool climate character shows in the crisp palate and slightly metallic finish. Does taste a little grassy, perhaps some Sauv Blanc influence? Simple wine really with no complexity to speak about but really a pleasurable summer Chard.
Very aromatic nose and somehow very Egon Müller. This showed restrained class and modesty. Loads of minerality on the intensely concentrated palate which carried through on the very persistent finish. Tasted blind this was clearly from a ripe (but not overripe) year. Sweetness was more or less where I expect a Kabinett to be and the old vines really showed in the extra concentration and complexity which did not sacrifice balance. Mind-blowing.
From the nose clearly a Rhône but not as pungent as one from the Southern part. This is drinking at the peak now and would probably hold for a few more years. Fruit is not fading yet but tannins almost fully resolved. A classic La Chapelle.
Plenty of sediment. For the great 1982 vintage, this was a tad disappointing as it was rather hollow on the mid-palate and perhaps has already passed its peak. Other than that, everything about it is what I expect from a Bordeaux of this age; the classic claret nose to the secondary flavors.

From the other tasting notes, this particular bottle seemed to be an off bottle. Probably past its best years where the fruit has now more or less faded. Completely secondary with sweet coffee and dried herbs on the nose. Sour and preserved plums on the palate. Drink up.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
Tasted pretty good when first popped but seems to be closing down after a few hours. Loads of spice and some floral elements initially and pretty substantial on the palate. But further on everything just clamped up leaving behind a tight package. A modest wine and not easy to guess that this was a RSV. I would keep this for a few more years in the hope that it will develop presence which separates a good grand cru from a great one.
Unmistakably a Bordeaux from its distinctiveness. Ripe, leafy and clearly a left bank-er. Sweet berries with rather round tannins. This is ready to drink now and will hold for many many years.
A little stinky at the beginning which made me guess a Rhone, then later the fruit forwardness and weight made me guess a new world wine. Big ripe fruits and very lush on the palate which unfortunately made the grace harder to detect. Distinctiveness was not that obvious though, as guesses on the region were all over the place. Very slight hint of Cabernet Sauv/Franc. No signs of age yet.

Served as a pair with the 1994, I thought this vintage was a hotter one. Classic Barossa richness and full-body but just a tad more clumsy than the 1994. Tannins have smoothed down but the fruits remain so ripe and forward. A wine I could enjoy over a meal but not as the last one in a multi-wine flight. A wine which has not evolved and probably would never evolve. Will refrain from scoring this as I think I did not do this wine justice.

2009 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett Alte Reben Auction 92 Points
