  • 2004 Château Moulin Saint-Georges

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

    Nose: black berry, chocolate, spice
    Mouth: low medium acid and medium tannin. Medium body and low to medium flavour intensity. Slightly astringent, touch of black fruit and plum, vanilla. A little one-dimensional, nicely made with medium length.
    80% Merlot, 6% Cab Sav, 14% Cab Franc. 20% New oak, 12-14 months.

  • 2005 Château Figeac

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

    Nose: leather, tobacco, berry, quite subtle, oak and farmyard
    Mouth: blackcurrant, medium to high tannin, medium acid, body and flavour intensity. Leather and spice. Can be drunk now but I think it needs a lot more time.
    33% Cab Sav, Cab France, Merlot

  • 2001 Château La Conseillante

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

    Nose: Rich berry, leather, tobacco and spice
    Mouth: Medium to high acid, tannin, full bodied with medium flavour intensity. Plum, red earth, alcohol. Long, smoothly tannic finish.
    85% Merlot, 15% Cab Franc

  • 1999 Château Rol Valentin

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

    Nose: muted plum & red fruit, thick legs and vanilla
    Mouth: instant fruit that dissipates almost immediately, medium tannin but low to medium acid, body, flavour intensity and finish. Very disappointing.
    90% Merlot, 10% Cab Sav.

  • 1995 Château Montrose

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Estèphe

    Nose: Blackberry and currant, leather, tobacco, spice and cherry. Slightly herbal and touches of funky farmyard
    Mouth: Blackfruit, vanilla, medium to high acid and tannin. Very fruity, very, very nice. Long, leathery finish. Wonderful.

  • 1996 Château Palmer

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

    Nose: Black fruit, sweet leather, cedar, floral (violets?) chocolate
    Mouth: blackcurrant, medium to high acidity and medium tannin. Very smooth, chocolate and minor spice. Medium to long finish.
    Lovely. I would happily drink this until I was horizontal.

  • 2000 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Julien

    Nose: Black fruit juice, slight leather, spice, vanilla and floral perfume
    Mouth: Again, black fruit, leather, spice. Some oak and perhaps vanilla. Smooth, rich, long. Medium to high tannin and alcohol.
    65% Cab Sav, 25% Merlot, 10% Cab Franc. Hmm.

  • 2002 Château Latour Grand Vin

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    Nose: Perfumed, subtle black fruit, cream, chocolate, spice, cinnamon
    Mouth: high acid and medium to high tannin, sweet and fruity, chocolate, spice, cream, rolls around the mouth, potty. Huge finish.
    Far too young though.

Closing

Oh god, marvellous hosted tasting. I would recommend this to anyone. It's pricey and a bit stuffed short formal but worth it. I had a lovely time. And the spread after the tasting is pretty good as well.
