Introduction

Impromptu casual dinner with few drinking buddies at Giant Garoupa restaurant, Serangoon Road. Corkage is free, but do BYO stemware (hint). As per the name of the restaurant, dishes from any part of the Giant Garoupa can be found here, I love the HK style steamed Giant Garoupa Lips, a must try dish here (a tad expensive though).

The 1997 Diel was served and my 2nd tried, drinking very well and perfect for appetizer, but no surprised, very good for the price though.

  • 2002 Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

Seductive perfume nose of sweet black and red berry, floral, alluring spices with earth, though this is lack a little bit of complexity and scale, but the fragrance soar from the glass is really something. Smooth entry, this medium bodied wine offer medium level of complexity and depth, lots of sappiness on the palate that carry through to the firm persistent, tannic long finish, but the wine faded rather quickly hence the disappointment, especially for a strong vintage like 2002. Buy - No.

Flight 2 (1 Note)

I believed this is not really a good example of what Paleo capable of, hope to try for other vintages.

  • 2003 Le Macchiole Paleo Rosso

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

Opps, very strange or rather too hot as the wine display burn tyre smell which masked over the dusty earthy, roasted herb, green capsicum, meaty and blackberry aromas. This too has rich, sweet entry with highly extract oak, powdery tannin with alcohol heat along with jammy dark fruits, dark chocolate, coffee with very bitter, alcohol heaty finish. This has very good weight on the palate but somehow kinda imbalance and acidity for the lift and precision, perhaps due to this super hot vintage. My friend who tried this bottle next day commented that the wine showing much better, turn from a beast to a gentleman. Tannin resolved and it's more balanced but acid a bit low, still a bit hot. Buy - No.
