• 2005 Raventós i Blanc Penedès Perfum De Vi Blanc 88 Points

  Spain, Catalunya, Penedès

  Pale color. Notes of melon and florals. Palate follows the nose, dominated by melon, but also a touch of apple as well. Pinot Grigio?

• 2003 Léon Vatan Menetou-Salon Cuvée Sélection 90 Points

  France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Menetou-Salon

  Deep straw yellow color. Notes of smoky apple and pear, nice toasty quality too which had me thinking Chardonnay. The palate shows some very nice fruit, but also has a rich, waxy/lanolin quality, more Rhonish than anything else. Finishes well, with nice fruit and good underlying acidity throughout. A unique wine which I really liked.

• 2007 Chappellet Chardonnay 88 Points

  USA, California, Napa Valley

  Opens with floral and crab apple aromas, and with time the floral qualities dominate. Bright acidity on the palate, with apple and pear nuances. Nice, but I was not guessing Chardonnay.

• 2007 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville 90 Points

  USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

  Deep color. Aromas of cocoa powder, plum, blue fruit and cassis. Medium to full bodied, with dark fruit and red currant tones on the palate. Hints of vanilla and spice ronding out the finish. Fairly easy to pick out as a Cab.

• 2003 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Flawed

  Corked, though still displayed some nice red fruit qualities on the palate. Too bad.

• 2005 Famille Brunier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Domaine La Roquète 90 Points

  France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

  Crimson color. Aromas of cherry, herbs and red fruit-cherries, with an underlying earthy quality. Loads of warm spice and cherry on the palate. Tannins dry out a bit on the finish.

• 2004 Mayo Family Winery Carignane Old Vines Stone Ranch

  USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley

  Opens with aromas of dark fruit, tobacco and herbs. With air, chocolate, white pepper and red fruit notes emerge. Flavors of black cherry and dark fruit with smooth, silky tannins. Guessed Cab Sauv.

  Inky garnet color. Aromas of chocolate, sous bois and dark fruit. Tannins and dark fruit flavors on the palate. Sous bois, beef bouillon and saline qualities develop on the palate. Tannin evident, though fine-grained. Guessed Cabernet.

  Aromas of black cherry, spice and florals. Red fruit with good underlying acidity. Youthful...chcek back in 2015+.

• 2007 Plumpjack Cabernet Sauvignon Estate 92 Points

  USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

  Opens with notes of vanilla and butter, followed by red currants, pomegranate and game. Balanced, with fine tannins and flavors of dark fruit and vanilla, hint of licorice on the back end. Lovely.

  Initially a bit reticent though clove, florals and spice tones could be coaxed out of the glass. Earthy red fruit tones on the palate.

• 2005 Teldeschi Cabernet Franc Pedroni Vineyard 92 Points

  USA, California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley

  Deep color. Aromas of black cherry and herbs wit a subtle meaty quality too. Aith air, some tobacco and tea leaf qualities too. Flavors of dark fruit and red berries. Nicely balanced; fine grained tannins, with a hint of oak spices on the finish. Guessed Cab Franc.
