Introduction

My godaughters birthday and time to check in on some 2001 Napa Cabs

Flight 1 - A couple Champagnes with apps (2 Notes)

Camembert and pata negra sandwiches (to die for)!

Flight 2 - Mixed greens salad, mashed potatoes and Brians Midewestern Ribcap (4 Notes)

Ribcap was delicious and cooked to perfection! Wines were pretty awesome too!

Deep red in color, no watery edge. Inititally on the nose, strong olives, darker fruits and a touch of cedar. To start the finish was a tad short. This wine opened up and smoothed out as the night went on. The last sip was the best. started a 92 ended a 93 for me.

Wow this wine has changed since I last tried. On this night, the color wasa dep ruby with a hint of bricking. ON the nose, licorice, cassis, blackberry and a hint of oak. Not a sign of heat on the nose or palate. Really well balanced wine and an absolute pleasure to drink. This held up all night and the 1st sip was a good as the last. This also has some life ahead of it.

This wine was consumed alongside 3 other 2001 napa cabs and it was the only one I was able to pick out. Dark red in color with a hint of brick on the edge. In my initial notes, suave, polished and dark fruited nose. Well structured wine with some recognizeable tannin, but in a smooth package. Well put together wine. As the night progressed this one improved the most for me. Opened up to reveal classic napa cabernet flavors and the tannin seemed to integrate for me. I think think this could improve some more and has lots of life ahead if stored properly.

Cork revealed some seepage, but no sign of flaws. Dark red, youthful appearance. Dark fruits on the nose in a more brooding less revealing manner than the 3 other napa cabs. Finish was somehwat short and tart. Dissappointment as this was one 2001 napa cab I brought. Did not improve over the evening.
