Introduction

Kaisa brought the wines, I tasted double blind.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2008 D'Yvon Mau St. Émilion 85 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion

Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. A medium red with a violet tinge to it, not very remarkable. The nose was quite ok, nothing spectacular, red berries and a bit of licorice. Quite a bit of tannins, fairly light on the palate with a good dose of acidity, lingonberries. Not a bad wine, austere and definitely needs food to go with.

  • 2008 Domaine du Vieux Lazaret Châteauneuf-du-Pape 87 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. A medium red with a violet tinge to it. The nose is rather expressive, with lots of sweet oak, dark berries and a hint of herbs. On the palate this is very soft and round, not much tannins, lots of fruit, dark fruits and sweet oak. I found this very New World in style, indeed I guessed Chile as the origin of the wine. Not really my style, so I won't be getting a bottle.

Closing

I was quite surprised when the CNDP was revealed, I was completely in the forest with that one. Nice to taste both wines, I can leave it at that.
