Dinah and I celebrated our 13th anniversary at home with dinner. Arugula salad, Chilled asparagus soup with Red Pepper Coulis, Roasted chicken with Fava beans and Morels, Rose/Rasberry sorbet.
Dinah's last night drinking for three months as she's going to start taking a medicine that makes drinking impossible. The wines were not as good as our marriage but ... they were pretty good.
Both wines were actually better the day after.
1979 Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste. Hune
France, Alsace
Golden yellow .. very deep color but brilliant. Showing age and the musty aromas that come with age. Peach pits and/or skins, hayfields/meadows, paper whites. Very concentrated, mouth filling with nice viscosity offset by powerful acidity. Extremely long, focused finish. This is linear and deep. Fine, fine wine.

1994 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage
France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
Blood and guts, beef jerkey and black pepper, whisp of tobacco, blackberry cobbler. There's that Chave balance and mouth filling satisfaction, good depth and concentration. Very fresh and ripe. Firm but still ripe tannins. Cleansing acidity cuts right through a very, very long finish. A fine Chave that is drinking nicely right now but should continue to evolve nicely for 5-10 years. Drink again in two years.
This got better over the several hours that it was open. Did not decant.
