Introduction

The monthly event's theme was according to Shlomo: 2001 CS from all over the world. Blind tasting during which attendants should identify the origin country and grade the wines among themselves.

  • 2001 Alexander Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 87 Points

    Israel, Galilee

    Blind tasting of 2001 CS.
    Dark red purple with orange rim;
    Bisque d'Hommard aroma that changes to cooked vegetables, oxidized and over the peak, though enjoyable.
    High acidity, round soft tannins, medium-bodied, alcoholic, low harmony, still enjoyable.

  • 2001 Tenuta Col d'Orcia Olmaia Cabernet 91 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

    Blind tasting.
    Dark red-black with rosy rim.
    Classical Bordeaux aroma at first. Fruity, smoky, oaky with ample acidity & tannins. Full-bodied. After-taste weakens with time. After few min seems like a good super-Toscan.

    Blind tasting.
    Dark red/black with orange rim.
    Earthy aroma of heavy wet soil. Moss & mushrooms.
    Some acidity, lots of tannins, low harmony. short after taste. over the peak. somewhat flat.

    Blind tasting.
    Dark red/brown with orange rim.
    Artichok aroma and premature fruits.
    Medium bodied, bitterness, a bit flat.
    Hints for a Bordeaux wine.

  • 2001 Bazelet Hagolan Cabernet Sauvignon 90 Points

    Israel, Galilee

    Blind tasting.
    Red-Brown color with orange rim.
    Intense & rich fruity aroma, lot of flavors.
    Candy sweetness, acidic & tannic.
    Clearly a new-world wine.

Closing

The evening was managed at potivite tension trying identifying the wines. Most were good & pleasant.
The last in sequence was the first in scores, but wasn't identified as an Israeli wine. The Chateau Poujeaux was somewhat disappointing. Olmaia was the best IMHO. Baron de Chirel didn't contain any CS - but was OK.
