France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
As with some other 2007 Leflaives I tasted before, this was really an acidity-driven wine. Very classic Puligny with laser-like precision and great persistence. This style might not be for everyone as it is not fleshy. For purists.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
This wine is drinking very well now. Surprisingly packed with minerality for a Clavoillon in a package that can only be the style of Puligny as expressed by Leflaive. Not the most classy Leflaive but fleshy yet balanced with solid acidity. Almost outstanding.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Surprisingly for the vintage, this was so well balanced and entirely serious. Very classy with a sense of tension. Quite approachable now. This wine could only be from Puligny.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
For a Batard, this was actually quite a light-weight. Very silky texture and rather restrained at the moment. Austere or just shut down? My score gives it the benefit of the doubt as the extract is clearly there.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru
A little disappointed with this especially when there's young vines Clos de la Roche in it. Very acidic and a little thin without any flesh. Feels rather simple without any sense of further improvement. No doubt still a drinkable Burgundy but I expected more from Ponsot.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru
Cloudy. Secondary aromas of caramel, herbal tea and a little musty. This is the second 2000 vintage Ponsot to show such prematurely aged characteristics. 2000 is undeniably not for long-aging but this is definitely at the peak now. A robust Chapelle from the Gemeaux climat. I would pop some to try if I had them.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
En magnum. Sweet red cherries dominate the prettily fruited and mildly spicy palate. The 2007 CdlR is not a typical heavy-weight example from this vineyard. It might come across as a little simple at the moment but there's no denying the class and fineness inherent in this wine. A wine of grace and without any make-up. Not a wine to grab your attention but easily drinkable.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
As with the 2007, the 2001 CdlR chez Ponsot is not a heavy-weight. Still very young and primary this has heaps of purity and complexity followed by decent weight at the back-end. Not a wine to wow you but one which you need to contemplate quietly with.
