  • 1988 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

Mature nose of tea leaves, leather and spices. Hints of floral notes. Masculine yet very approachable now.

  • 1986 Château Gruaud Larose 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Dense, rich and powerful. Will never be the most charming of wines but a serious and intense claret that will last decades.

  • 1982 Château La Lagune 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

A revelation. Seductively sweet perfume of forest floor, spice box, and black fruits. Almost exotic. Tasted blind i thought it was a 82 from St Julien, possibly Ducru. Some even thought it was Conseillante. The window however was short lived - started fading after an hour or so.

  • 1990 Château La Conseillante 97 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Stunning bottle. Completely outshone the left bank clarets with its extraordinary perfume of exotic fruits and spices. Lush and velvety. Hints of barnyard towards the end, but not in the unpleasant sense. Top drawer.

  • 1991 Penfolds Grange 91 Points

    Australia, South Australia

Unmistakable. Everyone unanimously guessed Grange. Dark purple, jammy, ripe, syrupy. As always overly sweet for my taste but this is at a good drinking window right now.
