  • 2007 Penfolds Riesling Thomas Hyland 87 Points

    Australia, South Australia, Adelaide

A light pale yellow wine with a nose of lemon and citrus. It had tastes of lime, lemon and some mineral. The wine exhibited a creamy mouth feel after warming up a little. Nothing distinctive about this wine.

  • 2006 Barossa Valley Estate Chardonnay E Minor 86 Points

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

Nose had an initial yeast note that seemed to dissipate after a few minutes, leaving a nose of peach & apricot. Tastes of Green apple and some mineral with a creamy mouthfeel. This wine did not impress me, but have no real objection except for the yeast smell initially.

  • 2006 Redheads Studio Yard Dog Red 90 Points

    Australia, South Eastern

A dark plum wine with a nose of blackberry & mocha. This wine has high acidity, but a very smooth mouth feel. Tastes of raspberry, black currants and fresh ground pepper. This is a very nice petit verdot blend. I was very impressed by it and will pick up some bottles, given the low price.

  • 2006 Turkey Flat Mourvèdre 89 Points

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

This is a wine that definitely gets your attention. Nose of raspberry, currants and cloves. It also has an earthy (mushroom) note that is subtle. The taste is Pepper! and blackberry and plum. The pepper flows from mid-palate through the finish. It is strong but does not overpower the wine. Maybe needs a little time to bring the focus of this together.

  • 2005 S.C. Pannell Shiraz/Grenache 92 Points

Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale

A heavy-bodied wine with a complex nose of vanilla, blueberry & butterscotch. Taste of black raspberry and other black fruit. Finish has a pepper (maybe cumin) with some length to it. A very nice wine overall and is ready to drink now, but would likely cellar for a good number of years.
