Introduction
During our recent visit to Napa Valley we stopped by the Napa Wine Company for a tasting after grabbing a quick bite of lunch at the Oakville Grocery next door. The Napa Wine Company is a cooperative that features several smaller, let us say boutique producers in the area. On this particular day the winery was featuring the wines of winemaker Pam Starr. There is a fairly hefty $25.00 tasting fee to taste through five wines. The ample and friendly tasting room staff poured a few extras for us making for a total of seven wines tasted. Here are the results:
2009 Crocker & Starr Sauvignon Blanc 90 Points

Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of lime, grapefruit, sea foam, lychee and a hint of talc. Flavors of grapefruit, apricot core, lime and a bit of gooseberry. Medium to bright acidity, medium to full bodied. Drink over the next 2 years.

2009 Bridesmaid White 91 Points

Straw color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of sea breeze, lychee, light notes of perfume and a bit of citrus spritz. Flavors of apricot, lime and a dash of peach. Medium to bright acidity, light to medium body. Drink over then next 2 year.

Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of vanilla, creme fraiche, a dash of matchstick, yellow pears and yellow apples. Flavors of yellow pears, yellow apples and lemon. Medium acidity, medium body. Drink over the next 3 years.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of thistle, white pepper, a hint of blueberry, black cherries and black berries. Flavors of Bing cherries, black berries, plums and a bit of currants. Medium to bright acidity, medium to firm tannins, full bodied. Drink now with some air or into the 2-4 year range.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of florals, white pepper, dark chocolate, black berries and currants. Flavors of Bing cherries, black berries, black raspberries and currants. Medium to bright acidity, firm tannins, full bodied. Hold 2 years and retry over the 3-10 year range.

Garnet to perhaps dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of florals, white pepper, perfume, berries and cherries. Solid flavors of black cherries, black berries, a little currant and some black raspberries. Medium to bright acidity, medium to firm tannins, full bodied. Drink now with some air or perhaps into the 3-7 year range. 10 years if you'd like to push it.
