Introduction

Since we first saw the movie "Bottle Shock" we've had a desire to taste Gustavo Thrace wines. During our recent trip to Napa we happened by their tasting room in Napa directly across the street from the Oxbow Market. One would normally drive right by this unassuming aging retail outlet in a street facing strip center. Having fortunately stumbled upon it we popped in for a quick tasting of their wines. The sole young lady staffing the tasting room was a cheerful and knowledgeable person as well as a pleasure to chat with as she poured our wines. In the notice of full disclosure the lovely young lady did not charge us a tasting fee for the four wines she poured. She was more impressed that we actually took the time to take tasting notes on each of the wines we tasted and discussed facets of each with her.

    Tasted non blind at the tasting room.

    Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of match stick, basil, camphor, yellow pears and yellow apples. Flavors of lemon, yellow pears and yellow apples. Medium acidity, medium body. Drink now.

  • NV Gustavo Wine The Third Bottle 88 Points

    Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of balsamic, currants, perfume and cocoa. Flavors of black berries and black raspberries. Medium acidity, medium tannins, medium body. Drink now.

    Tasted non blind at the tasting room.

    Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of melted black licorice, currants black cherries and black berries. Flavors of black cherries, black berries and a bit of black raspberries. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannins, full bodied. Drink now with some air or hold into the 2-5+/- year range.

    Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of melted black licorice, currants, violets and plums. Flavors of black cherries, black berries, a bit of black raspberries and a bit of black licorice. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannins, full bodied. Drink or hold.
