Introduction

Our third stop of the day on a cool and cloudy day atop of Howell Mountain was at CADE Winery. CADE is a a beautiful, LEED Gold Certified facility with absolutely stunning views of the surrounding area. Tastings are sit down tastings (very much appreciated; I wish more wineries would do this) and by appointment only. Tastings are $20.00 for 4 wines with 1 bonus wine being poured on this occasion. The tasting room staff were friendly and seemed fairly knowledgeable about the products being poured. In the interested of full disclosure our tasting fees were comped during this tasting.

  • 2009 Cade Sauvignon Blanc Estate Oakville 89 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

    Tasted non blind at the winery.

    93% Sauvignon Blanc, 6% Semillion, 1% Viognier.

    Straw to light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of talc, gooseberry, lime, a bit of camphor and light notes of basil. Flavors of grapefruit, apricot core, lime and a bit of guava. Medium acidity, light to medium body. Drink now.

  • 2007 Cade Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Cuvée 91 Points

    Tasted non blind at the winery.

    Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of florals, smoke, black currants, white pepper and plums. Flavors of black berries, black cherries, black raspberries and a bit of currant on the finish. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium to full bodied. Drink now with some air or somewhere in the 2-6+/- year range.

  • 2007 Cade Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 92 Points

    Tasted non blind at the winery.

    Dark garnet to perhaps purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of soapstone, rose petals, white pepper, a hint of leather, mixed dark fruits a a bit of dark chocolate. Flavors of rich berries, black currants, black cherries, black raspberries and a bit of plum. Medium acidity, firm tannins, full bodied. Drink now with at least a couple of hours of air or into the 3-10+/- year range.

  • 2006 Cade Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 92 Points

    Tasted non blind at the winery.

    Dark garnet to perhaps purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of Kirsch, white pepper, violets, currants, black berries and a little plum. Flavors of plums, black currants, black cherries, black berries and a hint of dark chocolate. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannins, full bodied. Drink now with at least a couple of hours of air or hold into the 4-10+/- year range.

    Dark garnet to perhaps purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of allspice, acacia, black currants, black raspberries, black berries and black cherries. Flavors of black raspberries, black berries, plums and black cherries. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannins, full bodied. Hold 3-5 years before opening.
