Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2008 Rustenberg Chardonnay

    South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch

    Alcohol :: 14.5%
    Expressive nose of butter, nutty, green herbs with ripe yellow fruits core, quite compelling with a hint of citrus notes too. Very rich on the palate, almost creamy in texture and flavors with light alcoholic tones, but considered very well in check for a 14.5% alcohol content. Hot, spicy finish. Buy - No.

Flight 2 (3 Notes)

  • 1989 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

    Alcohol :: 13%
    Opened for 3hrs before serving. Seductive sweet aromas with dried fig paste, dark plum, blackberry complexed with smoke meat and deep core of spices and barnyard at the background too. Fresh. Lots of lush dark fruits on the palate, well-balance with spices, earth and smoke meat that underpinned by fresh acidity, little touch of tannin giving good grip as well as longer persistent finish. This bottle somehow lack a bit of the completeness and lift on the palate and length compared to the previous bottle, perhaps suffered from the travelling. My drinking buddies thought this was a wine with max 12yrs in age. Buy - No.

  • 2004 E. Guigal Hermitage

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

    Alcohol :: 13%
    Barnyard, roasted herb, blackcurrant and smoke meat. Very bright profile, good transparency to the sweet dark fruits coated that is rich and quite powerful, medium weight palate with a touch of roasted herb and bitter tannin at the end, powerful finish too, Not bad but perhaps lack a little bit of the mid palate concentration, that's why I guessed this was a 2004. Buy - No.

  • 2005 Tenuta Fanti Brunello di Montalcino

    Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

    Alcohol :: 14%
    Very tannic and acidic at first so we leave it in the bottle and tried again at the end of dinner, approx 60mins later, the tannin has mellow down but the acidity became volatile and the finish is fading too. What a wine! Perhaps an off bottle. Buy - No.

Flight 3 (2 Notes)

  • 2004 Weingut Josef Leitz Rüdesheimer Kirchenpfad Riesling Auslese

    Germany, Rheingau

    Alcohol :: 7%
    From 500ml. Medium golden in color. Very sweet, honey coated mango, mandarin and smoke, quite complex and deep with strong acid to balance with the sweetness on the considerably rich entry. Sweet but bright, not heavy but this lack a bit of richness on the mid palate. Medium length. Not bad too. Buy - Maybe.

  • 2002 Gunderloch Nackenheim Rothenberg Riesling Auslese

    Germany, Rheinhessen

    Alcohol :: 7.5%
    Dark yellow than the Leitz which reflect on the nose too, riper and more Bortrytis notes with secondary aromas of petroleum (quite heavy) over a boat loads of peaches and dried apricot, quite reserve. Very rich honey lemon with clearly auslese sweetness level which well balance by the peaches acidity, nectar like finish, good richness on the mid palate, but never cloying. good. Buy - Maybe.

Flight 4 (1 Note)

  • 1993 Royal Tokaji Wine Co. Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos Betsek

    Hungary, Tokaji

    Alcohol :: 9%
    Aromas of dried raisin dominated this motor oil like color Tokaji 6puttonyos, with honey, sweet dark plum, marzipan and dried tea leaves. Remarkably rich on the palate, with huge concentration mid palate of honey coated tropical fruits. Finished is a bit lean and the transition between mid palate and finished is not smooth, I believe this need more time to establish more. Worth to mention that the wine drinking better in normal room temperature rather than chill. Buy - Maybe.
