The 95th Meeting of the George H. Rezek Society

Our 95th meeting and the wines were great. We score the wines by ranking. The end results were, Cos, Canon, Branaire, Magdelaine and Puy Lacoste. In all fairness to the Puy, it was the most developed but could not stand up to the ever evolving 1982's.

  Yeasty, vanilla, smooth finish, owned by bollinger, some pinot.

Oxtail Consomme, Black truffles

  Spain, Andalucía, Manzanilla de Sanlúcar de Barrameda

  Oldest of the sherry houses, dry, young, short on the palate but when paired with the Oxtail consomme, WOW!

Salmon with Braised Lentils, Buerre Rouge

• 1996 Olivier Leflaive Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 93 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

  Initially served too cold, good clean color, nice nose, initially thin on the palate, opened up over the next hour or two, glass straw and butterscotch, wow.

Beef Tenderloin, Whipped Potatoes, spring carrots, Mushroom Demi

• 1978 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 94 Points

  France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

  Of all the wines, this was the most structured and mature. Ready to drink up. Full flavor, dark color, developed then faded.

  Lightest of the 5 on the palate, less depth, good flavor.

Cheese with fruit garnish
