Introduction

Antti brought the wines, I tasted double blind.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2009 Kaiken Malbec 84 Points

    Argentina, Mendoza

    Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. A rather dark purple red in the glass. The nose was very much cassis with a hint of orange peel, seemed much more elegant than the other wine we had. Faiirly sweet on the palate, somewhat simple and juice-like, very little tannins, lots of fruit. This was ok, a bit on the sweet side for me, especially when had with aged gouda. I was guessing South America for this.

  • 2008 Tabalí Reserva Especial Blend 81 Points

    Chile, Limarí Valley

    Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. Ooo boy, if ever a wine was described as unidimensional, this is it. Jet black and cassis, cassis, cassis both on the nose and on the palate. We suspected that it was black currant juice with a shot of vodka. Strong, overpowering, and really, quite boring. Is this worth the 16€ it goes for in Alko? Not to me.

Closing

Two South American wines, one OK, the other just too much of one thing. Interestingly it was the more expensive wine that was the less complex.
