An Aussie tasting: 2002 Two Hands Lily's, 2002 Kay Bros Amery Hillside, 2002 MP Shiraz 9 & N.V. Buller Muscat

Introduction

I invited 7 other co-workers to a wine tasting dinner at my favorite local restaurant in honor of two Aussie visitors. We started with fried calamari that was followed by a duck filled pastry.

Every one ordered different first and second courses, which is unusual. I had a duck brest carpaccio with a seared fois gras scallop. I then ordered beef tenderloin medallions over a bean and con sauce. Both were delicious.

    What a beauty! It conceals its very high alcohol remarkably well. very concentrated, with laserlike flavor definition. Pure blackberries, blueberries and a hint of licorice. This is indeed a great wine.

  • 2002 Two Hands Shiraz Lily's Garden 90 Points

    This wine has great fruit intensity in the nose and palate. It is a shame the alcohol is a little out of balance. This was my least favorite shiraz of the night.

  • 2002 Marquis Philips Shiraz 9 92 Points

    Not as good as other times, but nevertheless excellent. Maybe having drunk it after the more restrained and pure Kay Brothers Amery Hillside Shiraz made it seem overly alcoholic and thus, a little unbalanced. Very fruity and exotic.

    Less good than other times (and I have it often!). Molasses and creme brulee, this is very sweet and lacking a bit of acidty this time.

Closing

We were loud and obnoxious, but luckily we were in a private area. We laughed a lot, teasing every one in the table, but ended the night happy.
