Guado al Tasso Vertical Tasting

Tasting of Guado al Tasso, vintages 1996-2003. The tasting was conducted by Golan Flam,whom studied and worked in Tuscany before he established the Flam Winery.
In addition there were 2 more wines tasted: another SuperToscan - Tua Rita Giusto di Notri 2001 and Flam C.S. reserve 2008

• 1996 Tenuta Guado al Tasso (Antinori) Bolgheri Superiore Tenuta Belvedere 88 Points

  Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri, Bolgheri Superiore

  Ruby color with hints of brown, white rims. Very elegant nose – perfume, flowers. The body was disappointing, acidic but not balanced, bitterness.

• 1997 Tenuta Guado al Tasso (Antinori) Bolgheri Superiore Tenuta Belvedere 92 Points

  One of the best vintages. Ruby-brown, bright color with clear shoulders. Exquisite floral nose. Light to medium bodied. Good acidity and a bit of bitterness, both of them very well integrated. Good harmony between nose and palate. Much, much better than the previous ('96).

• 1998 Tenuta Guado al Tasso (Antinori) Bolgheri Superiore 90 Points

  Bright ruby color. Nice floral nose mixed with ripe fruit. Medium bodied, still with good acidity, very well integrated. Soft tannins, medium finish. A good wine, aging well. Ready to drink now, even though the acidity and the still remaining tannins, allow keeping it for a couple of years more.

  The best one of the tasting. (Even though most of the panel preferred the '97). Bright ruby color. Superb and complex nose, floral and animal. Medium to full bodied. Excellent acidity, good balance and long finish.

  Very young with still a long way to go. A lot of red fruit and hints of smoke. Full bodied, well balanced, excellent acidity. Very good.

  Opaque ruby. Red and dark fruits in the nose, with sweetness and alcohol. Full bodied. Good.

• 2001 Tua Rita Giusto di Notri Toscana IGT 90 Points

  Tasted blind. I guessed a younger vintage and was surprised it was a '91. Dark and bright purple color. Nice and complex nose with a mix of floral aromas, ripe, dark fruits and chocolate. Very high acidity, which should allow a few more years of cellaring. Lacking a bit of balance.

• 2008 Flam Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

  Brought by Golan Flam himself to the tasting. Completely different to all the others in the tasting: Young, Thick, tannic, ripe fruits. I love it.
