Introduction

This was a very fun event. 6 domestic pinots plus a bonus pinot were drank single blind over the evening along with several starter wines.

  • 2008 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Temperance Hill Vineyard 90 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills

    Medium light red color. Nice nose of black cherry, raspberry, very subtle earth, smokey, toast. The palate delicate,with red berries, a bit thinner than in the past. I found this bottle good, but not representative of past bottles.

  • 2009 Sojourn Pinot Noir Gap's Crown Vineyard Sonoma Coast 92 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

    Medium red color. This wine was very interesting. The nose was always nice, but the palate changed pretty dramatically over about 30-60 minutes. The nose shows sweet fruits, mostly strawberry and raspberry with vanilla and developing a nice floral quality. The palate was initially more acidic, sour and had a odd quality on the finish that most people did not like, an odd bitterness. Over time this resolved and the tannin and acid integrated showing a balanced palate with nice berries and spices on the finish which was very good later. This became a solid 92 for me from less than 90 to start.

  • 2008 Red Car Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 93 Points

    Medium dark red color. This was the most surprising wine of the nght. The nose was complex, with smoke, cinnamon, forest floor, spices, black cherry and hints of roses. The palate shows good concentration, tart cherry, dusty minerals, earth, truffle, vanilla. This was an impressive wine, I really found the complex earthiness to be outstanding. My and group #3 WOTN.

  • 2006 Ayoub Pinot Noir 91 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills

    Darker red colr. Nose has strawberry, raspberry, caramel, a little funk, and moderate earth. The palate is spicy, berry fruit but not as prominent as previous bottles, oak, elegant. I thought this was still very good, but not approaching depth and purity of before.

  • 2006 Belle Pente Pinot Noir Murto Vineyard 90 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills

    Medium dark red. Earth, black cherry, raspberry. Palate seemed a bit thinner, raspberry, spicy, has a nice finish though.

  • 2008 Roar Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard 93 Points

    USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands

    Dark red color. Nose is really nice, vanilla, ripe fruit, cherry, medest earth, a little oak, florals,. The palate s really concentrated, black cherry, mineral, dusty, spice, nice tannins, good balance. This is a very good wine. My #2 WOTN and tied for Group #1 with the '05 Kistler

  • 2005 Kistler Pinot Noir Kistler Vineyard 94 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

    Dark red color. Nose is great, strawberry, raspberry, spices, and earth. The palate really reveals the pedigree, concentrated, silky in the mouth, rich berry fruits, integrated tannins, good acid, long finish. This was my WOTN and tied for group WOTN with the 2008 Roar Gary's Vineyard.

WOTN voting was very close. 3-2-1 points for 1st thru 3rd place.
There was a tie for WOTN with the 2008 Roar Gary's Vineyard with 20pts (3+3+3+3+3+2+1+1+1)
and the 2005 Kistler Kistler Vineyard with 20pts (3+3+3+2+2+2+2+2+1)
The 2008 Red Car was #3 with 14pts (3+2+2+2+1+1+1+1+1)
