    Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Modena

    Slightly grapy, black cherry but this is serious, dry, tannic Lambrusco with an earthy finish. Real wine and a totally different animal than the vast majority of Lambrusci.

  • 2009 Eisacktaler Kellerei / Cantina Valle Isarco Kerner

    Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Alto Adige, Alto Adige - Südtirol

    Pale. High toned, very aromatic with a distilled herb/juniper quality. Slightly spritzy. Just off dry, some bitterness at the end. Not as mineral or as interesting as the '08 tasted last week, but it grew on me and does have quite a bit of palate impact for its weight.

  • 2009 Tre Monti Albana Vigna Rocca

    Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Albana di Romagna DOCG

    Medium yellow. Restrained aromatics but I get a faint fino sherry quality from it. Round but neutral. Develops some orange but the wine is dull and just sits there because of low acidity.

  • 2006 St. Pauls Trentino

    Two bottles tried. The first had a brown tinge and unbelievable amounts of VA on the nose. The second was better, with a healthier color, less VA, sweeter fruit and brown spices. A fuller, New World style rather than lacy, lithe Pinot Noir.

  • 2006 Tenuta Beltrame Tazzelenghe Delle Venezie

    Italy, Delle Venezie

    Again, 2 different bottles. The first deep, dark international style with very woody base, lush, overripe, some VA and pruny fruit. Low acid and herbal. The second was fresher and less exaggerated, less woody and had pleasant black cherry fruit.

    Pale, gently effervescent. Honeyed, off dry, melon fruit. Good but not as lively and fresh as I would like.

Fabulous meal using every last part of the pig. Not your every day Italian wines with variable success.
