  • NV Ulysse Collin Champagne Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut Les Pierrières

    Alcohol :: 12.5%
    Degorged - 2010/10/10. A power house, still very tight after opened for at least 4hours, but the focus and complexity are there. Oak note dominated the aromatic profile with underlying lime, grapefruits, white floral and earth. Very tight on the palate too, fine but rigorous beads explode on the palate, kinda sharp but acceptable. Selosse's oxidative character kick in here with an array of green apple, lime, yeast, buttery, good intensity and powerful, long finish. Similar to Selosse in style and certainly a very good quality Champagne, just, lack a little bit of character of its own. Buy - Maybe.

  • 2008 Stonier Chardonnay

    Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Mornington Peninsula

    Ever since I have tasted the Chardonnay from Stonier some time ago, I became a fan of it. It used to be a S$30+ dollar wine which offer tremendous joyous and the quality is clearly punching above its asking price. Cold on the nose with generous fruits, citrus and lemon custard laced over a mineral, wet stone bed, a tad of white flower scents too. Rich on the palate with lovely transparency and freshness to the lightly complex flavor and depth. The finish is long with mineral aftertaste and also a trace of alcohol heat, but hey, what's more could I ask for a S$30+ wine? Sadly, it retail at S$50+ now which is no longer a bargain. Buy - Maybe.

  • 2008 Stonier Chardonnay Reserve

    Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Mornington Peninsula

    A turbo-charged version to the straight Chardonnay. This has better depth and complexity on both nose and palate, riper fruits too that toward ripe lemon and melon. Strong minerality showing at the long finish. Powerful and rich, however it also compromise a little from the freshness and transparency that the straight Chardonnay could offer. Buy - Maybe.

    Earthy with dark berry fruits on the nose that is quite austere which also reflect on the palate, rich and concentrated dark berry fruits that seems a little bit on the sweet side but then turn in very dry, long finish. Not bad. Buy - No

  • 1996 Calera Pinot Noir Selleck Vineyard

    From Magnum. Sweet dark Pinot fruits, dried fig surrounded by spices, mushroom and earth with hint of alcohol presence too. Sweet but not overly so, in fact, quite seductive. Well balanced, sappy and touch of alcoholic wood spice at the end of the medium, complex finish. Mature and quite delicious. Buy - No.

  • 1994 Calera Pinot Noir Reed Vineyard

    This is a clearly better wine to the Selleck. Sense of refinement from the nose, sweet dark fruits with rounded aromas of earth, dried fig, red cherry and HOISIN sauce, good complexity and seductiveness from a Pinot, especially there is this floral scent kick in. Very fine, rounded and polished palate that is well-balanced, good tension, vigor, integrated. Juicy long finished with bright detail too. This showed a good Cali Pinot can really age. Buy - Maybe - Yes.

    Similar nose to the 1994 but not as seductive, hoisin sauce, earth, spices, quite backward really. Good structure, rich palate that is sweet but not overly so, vigorous, a tad bitter and spicy too, long finish. Buy - No.

    Reserve, but the underlying rose petal, red cherry and pungent spice is truly seductive. The powerful palate is sappy, rich with great focus and precision that offer very pure sweet dark and red cherry fruits with mineral and dried tea leave complexity and depth all underpinned by the firm, ripe tannin and refreshing acid spine which build the solid structure that leads to spicy long finish, very good indeed.     As always, stunning purity and terroir driven is obvious in Fourrier's wines. Very pure fruits and quite rich though a bit lean but very decent long finish. I still prefer the 06, follow by 07 then 08. Buy - No.

  • 2006 Domaine Anne Gros Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d'Orveau

    Expressive on the nose with wet stone, damp forest floor and some sweet blue Pinot fruits and floral. Quite rich on the palate with sufficient sweet fruits that come across elegance and seductive as a Chambolle, not complex but easy going with fine tannin that bring on to the decent lengthy finish.     Tight, austere and earthy on the nose with underlying sweet dark frutis, deep and complex that continue to explode its mouth coating intensity on the palate with polish, firm tannin and elegance sweet, pure fruits to buffer. Surprisingly approachable and pure thanks to the perfect balance and harmonious. Fresh, juicy long finish. A refine Vougeot with finesse, my wine of the tasting. Buy - Yes.

  • 2007 Domaine Château De La Tour Clos Vougeot

    Tight and backward on both nose and palate, what I got for the nose is touch of stemminess, soil and earth. Palate is showing slightly better though, richly dark fruits coated the palate with good level of weight and power, just a tad of greenish and roasted herb and linear. Slight heat appear on the finish. Buy - No.

    Fresh rose petal, rich red berry and cherry with spices and mineral on the background, broad and seductive, i really like the nose of this wine. The palate is still pretty tight and shut, light mid palate density with good sense of purity and freshness. Showing better complexity and power on the detail, long finish. Give it another 10-15yrs and will be impressive. Buy - Maybe - Yes.

  • 2007 Domaine de L'Arlot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Forêts St. Georges

    Compared to the 2004, this is miles better. Tight and reserve on the nose but the palate is very promising, pure red cherry and berry sweetness with elegance mineral flow onto the very clean, juicy finish. Good character and really not bad. Buy - No.
