Nice bright red color. Touch of bricking. Light cherry, strawberry, creamy cotton candy. Some nice pungent funk. Good feminine aromatics. Approachable nose. Nice acid. A little tart on the palate. A tad abrasive around the edges. Quite nice and drying. Some tannins need to resolve.

Funky green olive nose, dirt, stinky cheese. Some mossy stewed leaves. Rustic cherry, decomposing leather and anise. Palate is rich and dark. Black berries, dirty earth. Spicy, driven by coal and some game action. Gorgeous savory play I couldn't get over. Loved it. Really nice plum note on the back end. Great wine.
Licorice, medium dark liqueured fruit. Rustic underbrush. Old World styled. Touch of iodine, light rusty gate and road tar. Traditionally styled. Still youthful. Hard to guess this one - everyone thought it was Bordeaux for sure.
Light color. See through it easily. Little green olive, menthol, rustic cherry, light cola. Light styling. Nice soft fruit. Dried leaves. Great wine by a solid producer in an "off vintage."
Super plump. Sweet blueberry and strawberries. Ripe and heady. Cloudy color. Watermelon. Screams New World from the get go. Not overdone, floral rose petals, fruity rock. Not too much oak. Good restraint. Aromatics didn't come across on the palate though, fell short there. Holding up well for another "off vintage" wine but its time to drink.
Unique nose. Rubber, stewed vegetables, funky quality. Some rockiness, licorice. Peppery spice and lots of rust, irony gate. Massive dose of smoked meat on the back end. Lush palate. A little savory sous bois. The palate is clean and fresh overall. Nice acidity. Good mid palate as well. Really nice nose overall, wish the palate showed similar complexity. Super solid nonetheless.

Really awesome wine to experience. Had to add the vintage onto cellartracker in fact. Cola in color. Rosy cola in fact. Brownish orange. A little tan even yellow at the rim. Blood orange aromatics, light molasses, strawberry, kiwi, even pear and tropical fruit - LIME. Beautiful complete wine. So much life after this much time. Drink now for sure, but this is a winner in my book.

Jumping out of the glass. New World styling as a whole. Creamy nose. WOW, a village wine - though a really expensive village wine. Modern styling for sure. Really nice.

Surprised this was a Cheval - kind of underwhelmed for such a great wine in a strong vintage. Molasses, savory soy, purple and rustic red cherry. Serious cola and earth. Worcestershire, spice. Leather, tobacco, classic Bordeaux styling. Pencil lead and graphite. Black and green olive. Palate is bigger and drying. Big tannin structure kind of got in the way in my opinion. Green vegetal play some tomato leaf action. Enjoyable and elegant. Fairly advanced for an '89 Cheval hence the reduced score.

2000 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon 90 Points

Super plump. Sweet blueberry and strawberries. Ripe and heady.
