France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
from magnum nose - per cindy, like opening up and old cedar chest..., per brian ...and finding a bunch of mouse droppings. Musky, and with time developed quite the nose of stinky sock - overall the nose is a touch unpleasant. mouth - restrained dark cherry fruit and increasingly with time a heavy soy sauce component. good minerality and still tannic. quite savory, and doug even commented 'umami'. decant and drink with a chunk of meat.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
nose - caramel which blew away after time leaving a nose of sexy red fruit with some floral aspects mouth - tart light red fruit. initially found by many to be simplistic with a short finish. But seemed to change remarkably with some air, developing a refreshing and quite delicate quality, though not everyone saw it that way. still could use a longer finish. elegant.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
nose - scorched earth, licorice, musky, cheese per rose, celery, white pepper per miguel. Very intriguing nose mouth - complex red fruit, slightly bitter, good minerality, still tannic and has life.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru
cloudy purple nose - earthy, mushrooms, and with time to me seemed slightly oxidized, vermouth like. per brian sardines mouth - relatively full bodied, with good juicy fruit, and a lengthy finish. yummy. when retasted after some time i sensed oxidative notes, making me wonder if its just a touch past its prime. Drink up if you have it. Group WOTN.
the ringer in our blind burgundy tasting, though this time nobody was fooled. nose - toast, heat (alcohol), rose, and lots of greenery. likely overcropped mouth - relatively extracted, esp in comparison to the burgundies it was tasted alongside, some floral flavors, long strawberry finish. stemmy per miguel, and rose gets plastic on the finish. It struck me as being overextracted yet simultaneously green, somewhat awkward, though to be fair not a bad QPR at 9.99. I would drink this chilled.
