Introduction

Fantastic opportunity to compare Bouchard and Liger Belair's La Romanee to 02 La Tache. All wines showed really well.

  • 1985 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut 94 Points

    France, Champagne

    Nice mature champagne but still relatively fresh for the vintage. Nice sherry and nutty notes, very lush, fine mousse and nice long finish, great aperitif.

  • 1992 Domaine Michel Niellon Chevalier-Montrachet 95 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru

    Still amazingly fresh and nutty, still fruity, nice medium plus palate, very long minerals filled finish, perhaps it lacks the focus of a truly great Chevalier, slightly mote rounded, but still a wonderful 92 white Burg. Ready but will hold.

  • 1994 Château Haut-Brion Blanc 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

    Still very fresh with very fine coconut and vegetable oil nose, palate mirrors the nose but still quite young, need another 5yrs plus to really open up, very good potential.

Flight 3 - To compare Bouchard and Liger Belair's La Romanee to La Tache, result as expected. (3 Notes)

  • 2002 Bouchard Père et Fils La Romanée 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, La Romanée Grand Cru

    Nice dark red color, nose still primary after 5 hours of air, ok VR nose but lacks complexity next to Liger Belair and especially La Tache. Still primary will need another 3-5yrs to develop but doubt it can ever challenge a decent La Tache.

  • 2002 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair La Romanée 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, La Romanée Grand Cru

    Very nice nose, a very big step up from the Bouchard both in terms of nose and palate, additional layers and complexity, very good but need another 5yrs+ to show true colors. Very nice effort for Louis Michel's early vintage. But then still no challenge for the La Tache 02

  • 2002 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche 96 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, La Tâche Grand Cru

    This wins hands down next to Bouchard and Liger Belair's La Romanee, super layered and complex nose with loads of red fruit, fresh grapefruit scent asian spices and perfume. Different pedigree. Nice chewy, plumy palate that is full and very well balanced with very long finish up to 30sec+. still primary and likely to gain another point or 2 in another 5-10yrs.

  • 1990 Château Beausejour (Duffau Lagarrosse) 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

    Wow after all the nice Burgs this really stands out as a very masculine wine, with licorice, tea, smoke, leather. Very full and powerful palate that goes excellent with steak. This is definitely a 50+ yrs wine.
