2001 Domaine des Lambrays Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos du Cailleret 92 Points

I liked this. A bit incomplete at points, but still a pretty good wine overall. It had a pretty nose - a little oak, some nuts, chalk, white fruit, lots of earthy age showing at the edges and some beeswax notes at the rear. The palate was not half bad either. Creamy textured, with creamy white fruit tones, some honey and caramel, a good amount ofsavoury chalk and beeswax and just a touch of lemon curd and flowers as the wine wound past the midpalate and into the finish, which had some sweet oak and mineral notes swirling away with a nice, long tail. I thought it was just a bit less than perfectly integrated at points, with little bits sticking out here and there, but overall a very enjoyable glass of wine with plenty of personality.

2005 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Corton-Charlemagne 94 Points

This was excellent. A solid Wow on the nose, still quite a bit of oak, but there is a serious minerality beneath that with stony, chalky scents, some roasty, toasty yellow fruit, a bit of sweet spice and a just that touch of honey at the edges - really lovely aromas all tumbling out of the glass in a complex, but integrated bouquet. The palate showed lovely Grand Cru weight and depth, with a rich, almost oily texture to its yellow fruited flavours led by lemons and then paired with apple and pear tones. Given the vintage, this was not the freshest Corton-Charlie, but it was certainly well-balanced and beautifully integrated. It had real solid core on the midpalate too, and lovely length on the finish, which showed an interplay of yellow fruit, mineral and spice. Very nice indeed, we were really taken by this wine.

2000 Michel Colin-Deléger et Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Demoiselles 93 Points

Excellent. It was slightly oxidative nose, with browning apples at the fore that got me very worried. Past that, there were aromas of dried lemons, dried flowers and savoury white meat and earth notes. All in all a little troubling. Thank goodness the palate was still okay though, because this was a very accomplished wine indeed. It showed lovely red apples, just with a slightly browning hint at the edges, and then lemons, spice and mineral laced with some honeyed, caramel notes. Lots of depth and grip, with lots of substance on the midpalate. The finish still had a lick of oak and a long pull of earth, stone and spice. Good weight, decent balance, lots of complexity. On the cusp of oxidation maybe, but we caught it at a good time. A lovely wine.

2002 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses 94 Points

Truly outstanding - this was my favourite wine of the tasting by some distance. Even better than the last bottle I had. Lovely nose here, lots of earthy, loamy, mushroomy notes, some caramel from the age of the bottle, but what stood out most was lots of saline Chablis minerality. This had reservoirs of lovely deep aromas. I really liked it. On to the palate, and this had gorgeous bright acidity running through rich flavours of ripe lemons, lime zest, grapefruit - clearly Grand Cru weight, but lined with a super steely minerality that just stretched on and on and on at the finish. Mouthfilling, super-complex, pitch perfect balance, and super length all held together in a super-precise, focused package This was a glorious Les Preuses caught right at its peak.

2008 Pithon-Paillé Anjou Blanc 89 Points

A nice little wine - good QPR. Classic Chenin on the nose, with lanolin aromas, some mineral and scents of green mangoes and flowers. Very nice palate too. More green mangoes here, some green apples, a lick of honey, and just that touch of mineral and lanolin on finish. Rich, slightly oily textured, but well balanced with juicy acidity. A good everyday drink.

2004 Domaine Michelot Meursault Les Narvaux 92 Points

I found this really excellent for a village. Lovely nose, very Meursault, with butter, cream, chalk and a bit of toasted oak framing aromas of fleshy white fruit lined with bright flowers and some stony mineral. The palate had quite a bit of toast, so not for those who shy away from overt oak in their wines, but it had a lovely creamy texture, with nice purity to its sweet granny smith apples and pear flavours which were lifted by a citrus lemony accent towards the long, minerally finish that just clung to the mouth with impressive persistence. The bright acidity of the vintage certainly seems to have helped with the balance here. Beautiful stuff, especially at its price point.
