One of Keith Prothero's fund-raising events for his Pebbles charity in which he provides 20 odd wines and 12 of us have to guess what they are. In the event we didn't do a bad job, though the event brought home how it isn't really possible to distinguish old and new world with any confidence.
1990 Taittinger Champagne Brut Millésimé 88 Points
France, Champagne
Ripe and advanced, a bit too old and pongy for my taste, but it had a fine prickle - I guessed 88 Salon

1996 Domaine François Cotat Sancerre La Grande Côte 89 Points
France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
Clear sauvignon nose, sweet and earthy, fresh and high-toned - my first guess was ten year old New World sauvignon, my second was 1989 Cotat

2006 Didier Dagueneau Silex 91 Points
France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé
Sauvignon again, very fine, a lot of sweet oak, but all very harmonious - I was confident this was young white bordeaux
