Supplied the bottle evaluated by Phredd and echo his notes, with the following additions. The 2006 so far has been my favorite L'Ange Rouge but the 7 hour decant might have been too extreme as the palate wasn't as expressive as previously recorded or as compared to the 07, 08, and 09. Right now, the 08 L'Ange Rouge reminds me of the 06 when first tasted back in 2008. I recommend a short decant or just pop & pour on any 06's remaining in your inventory. Not rated due to the excessive decant.

Seems '07 lacks the earth, spice, and "secondary subtlety" of the '06 or '08 while being just as bold as the '09, which is the latest release as of this tasting note. However the '09, being younger, seemed more "refined" and liqueur-like; the 07 just seems over the top and alcohol dominated as compared to the other vintages tasted in this '06 - '09 vertical. Sound but unbalanced, Overall Rating B-.

Supplied the bottle lovingly evaluated by Phredd, agreeing with his notes though I found more complexity of fruit and spice- add cranberries, raspberries, and herbal tea like notes to his. The structure is there to add body which allows the alcohol to smooth out the texture and not just add pure heat like with the '07 and '09 (though '09 might show better with age). Reminds me of the '06 and with that touch of S. Rhone earth. Definitely big, bold, and hedonistic. Style & Quality Rating A-.

Brought the two bottles Phredd mentions in his review. Agree with Phredd on all accounts; its really much more of a liqueur at this point. The 06 L'Ange Rouge, opened at the same tasting, has mellowed some so I will give my remaining 09 bottles another year or two before trying again. Going to rate this a B on quality at this point, liqueur-ish with some underlying tannic structure, and revisit later on down the road.
