This is in a fantastic place now. Far more open than a bottle a little less than 2 years ago. Rich, opulent fruit, while being incredibly precise and light on its feet too. Superb.
In a very nice place. Serious wine, nothing sub-Cote D'Or about this at all. Really comes across as a classy, mid-weight, nicely balanced white burgundy.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
This was in quite a strange place. Occasional traces of some kind of chemical/bacterial taint in the nose perhaps, but not on the palate. Massive body and fruit concentration, but not hyper-structured. The fruit showed as very rich, almost nebbiolo-ish, with a real peppermint note on top of dark fruit. The strangest thing about the wine was that it was very unstable, and seemed to change its profile every few minutes. Bizarre, and I don't know if it was a flaw - if so not an obvious one - or the way the wine is at the moment.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
This is wonderful. Elegant, poised, completely characteristic. Has great delicacy and backbone at the same time. Red cherry and blackberry fruit, marvelous acidity. Not a GREAT red burgundy, but exactly what a very very good one should be like. If I wanted to give someone an idea what open, correctly drinking but not aged Nuits tasted like, this might be it.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
This has a super earthy, gamey, sauvage nose, perhaps more Gevery than Vosne. On the palate I find it rather less expressive, nice structure and silky texture, but not giving so much away. Not sure it is closed, though.
