Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2004 Kistler Chardonnay Kistler Vineyard 94 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley

I get that classic kistler nose of unbuttered burnt popcorn. More of the same on the palate, with lemons, pineapple, honey dew and great acidity. Better than the 03 version, me thinks.

  • 2007 Sea Smoke Pinot Noir Ten 91 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills

Too young to strut its stuff. Red fruits is all i got out of this nose that was tight. Ripe dark fruits on the palate, maybe some white pepper. Not overly "ripe" or syrah like, but it did have a touch of heat at the end. Give it some time

  • 2001 Heitz Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon Bella Oaks 90 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford

My last bottle out of a six pack that I got from the winery on special. Overall it was a decent buy - my friends likely enjoyed it a tad more than I did. Dark fruits and a touch of the classic Heitz mint, touch of rubber, and mushroom. It's a pretty earthy wine, with good fruit, a touch of chalk, and a good amount of tannin left.

  • 2001 La Campana Brunello di Montalcino 90 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Classic brunello nose - dirt, mint, leaves, tobacco. Rich on the palate, with resolved tannins and a dry finish.

  • 1998 Domenico Clerico Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra 93 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Great nose - perfume & floral, with a touch of earth/poop. Great mouthfeel, powerful dark fruits, but light on the palate, with a dry finish. Still young

  • 1995 Romano Dal Forno Valpolicella Superiore Vigneto di Monte Lodoletta 92 Points

    Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Valpolicella Superiore

Dark fruits, meaty, a touch of barnyard, but it has a certain liveliness to the nose. Velvet mouthfeel, with twizzlers, coffee, dark leaves, and spices. The nose was better than the mouth...
