  • 1989 Veuve Clicquot Champagne Trilennium Reserve Cuvée 95 Points

    France, Champagne

    Classic Veuve Cliquot. Fresh as a daisy. Very fine bead. Gorgeous proportion and balance. This wine is a point - as it has no doubt been for much of its life. An exceptional bottle.

  • 2000 Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne Domaine Flawed

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

    Corked. Shame, as there was good mouthfeel, focus and depth with no trace of oxidation. Sadly the TCA intruded on the flavour and muted the aromatics.

  • 1991 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection 91 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Outstanding showing for this bottle. American oak to the fore - lots of coconut, vanilla and ripe (but not jammy) new world fruit. A fine wine that is not yet fully resolved and may inch higher in score with additional cellaring. Currently it is excellent and ready but not transformed. This wine is ever so slightly generic in style - albeit in a very high standard way.

  • 1990 Château Pape Clément 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

    Very fine Graves with lazer focus in its nose and palate. Quite a lot of earthy currants and dill characteristics alongside a strong minerality. Not opulent and certainly not an "oak monster". I like this for its fruit focus and earthy quality. This will age for years, I think and should improve with further cellaring.

  • 2003 Château Coutet Barsac 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

    another excellent Barsac from the 2003 vintage. Heavily botrytised, this is still on the primary side but one can easily enjoy the apricots in syrup nature of the wine. Long, luscious and complete, if perhaps a little obvious. Still outstanding.
