Introduction

A friend was visiting from SF, so we went out for dinner. He is a fledgling wine geek, so I opened a few wines for him to try.

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2009 Rivers-Marie Chardonnay B. Thieriot Vineyard 95 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

I am not a big Chard fan and neither are my wife or Brad P., both of whom shared this bottle with me. Amazing bottle of wine. The nose has a lot of minerals. No signs of any oak except perhaps the slightest lemon/vanilla notes. Clean and crisp (peach?) and delicious. Refreshing. One of the best young Chards I have ever had from anywhere.

  • 2008 Maybach Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Materium 94 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

This was very good, but seemed like it was hiding a lot. I usually drink one of these young, before they shut down, but perhaps I waited a bit long on this. It was not decanted either. Lots of good fruit, a hint of green bell pepper. Great texture. Quite monolithic. I will hold my others for a while as I think it will improve. I don't know that it will be in a class with the 07 though.

  • 2002 Sineann Pinot Noir Resonance Vineyard 93 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

Still not quite ready. This wine is developing at a much slower pace than I would have expected. Showing just a few signs of development (slight funk, layering, etc.). Glad to have more, but needs time. I did discover a bottle that appears to be a leaker, so perhaps I will open that soon and see what affect that has had.
