Introduction

Final tasting of this trip to Burgundy. My first time visiting the Domaine. A real treat and an honor.

Flight 1 - Barrel Tasting (8 Notes)

  • 2009 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Chambolle-Musigny

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

    Barrel tasting at Domaine. Intense and charming raspberry and red cherry flavors emerge behind a bit of CO2 and reduction today. Fruit is very layered, with more power on the finish.

  • 2009 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos de La Bussière

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru

    Barrel tasting at Domaine. Bit reductive at first. More black than red fruit with lots of tannic backbone. Dense fruit with lots of texture. I normally find the Bussiere to be more backward and rustic than the Roumier wines from Chambolle, which holds true for this barrel sample of 09 as well.

  • 2009 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras

    Barrel tasting at Domaine. Incredibly spicy on both the nose and palate. Lots of layers of flavors unfold in the glass. Great acidity, long finish. Quite balance already. I thought the Roumier 2008 Cras tried this spring at Paulee in NY was the best young Cras I've ever had. Quickly dethroned by this 2009.

  • 2009 Christophe Roumier Charmes-Chambertin Aux Mazoyeres

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

    Barrel tasting at Domaine. Very spicy and aromatic. If tasted blind, I wouldn't have guessed this was a Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru. Possibly due to the use of whole cluster much more common in Morey or Chambolle than Gevrey. Still very elegant and energetic. Moderate length.

  • 2009 Christophe Roumier Ruchottes-Chambertin

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru

    Barrel tasting at Domaine. Great combination of fresh accessible fruit and power. Flavors almost seem to deepen in your mouth.t Great layers of flavor and texture, like the rest of the lineup. Very long finish. I preferred this to the Charmes-Chambertin.

  • 2009 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

    Barrel tasting at Domaine. Incredible floral nose combines beautifully with the perfumed aromatics contributed largely from stems (approximately 75% whole cluster). Fruit is again dense and rich with sensational spice. Long finish. Really special. I hope I can double the number of bottles I'm allocated for the 2009s (from 1 to 2).

  • 2009 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Bonnes Mares

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

    Barrel tasting at Domaine. Best young Bonnes Mares I have ever had. Very subtle to start - wild strawberry, red cherry with a hint of cocoa. Then the flavors just explode in your mouth, showing powerful fruit, lots of pepper and spice. Very powerful, long finish.

  • 2009 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Musigny

    Barrel tasting at Domaine. Christophe said we were good boys and earned the honor to taste this wine. Truly an honor, given that he produces just 1 1/2 barrels. Dominated by an amazing floral violet start, nicely complemented by the perfumed charm that whole cluster (100%) contributed. Absolutely clean stunningly fresh fruit. This too starts with more delicate red fruit, then explodes on the finish, much like the other wines in the lineup.
