Introduction

We tasted wines from Limoux and other parts of Languedoc. The Limoux sparkling wines showed the best while the still wines had some nice ones, but nothing exciting.

  • 2008 Les Caves du Sieur d'Arques Blanquette de Limoux Première Bulle Brut

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Blanquette de Limoux

    Nose: Very fresh and lively. Nice mix of guava and flint

    Taste: A fruity attack followed by a dry mineral mid-palate to an almost salty finish. Quite tasty and a decent wine to refresh your palate with. Crisp clean pretty good buy at the price.

  • 2007 Les Caves du Sieur d'Arques Blanquette de Limoux Première Bulle Brut

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Blanquette de Limoux

    Nose: This one had an appealing barnyard nose such as hay, stables, stinky cheese and surprisingly...apples.

    Taste: A more complex wine compared with the regular Premiere. More mineral notes balanced with refreshing grapefruit flavours. The finish was longer and there was more depth to the wine. Limoux is showing pretty well here.

  • 2008 Les Caves du Sieur d'Arques Limoux Toques et Clochers Haute Vallée

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Limoux

    Nose: Very interesting nose of candied pears, haw flakes, green apples with ending not of persimmons and hay. This was not a chardonnay I have ever smelled before.

    Taste: The oak at the initial attack was a little disjointed with a slight touch of heat (despite being chilled). A buttery finish with a medium body. I found the wine rather one dimensional.

  • 2009 Mas Cal Demoura Pays d'Hérault L'Etincelle

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Pays d'Hérault

    Blend of Chenin Blanc (mostly), Grenache Blanc, Rousanne, Viognier, Muscat & Petit Manseng

    Nose: Very fruity, almost Traminer-like on the nose with some lychees. Very intense fruit.

    Taste: Intense flavours, spicy but a rather flat and short finish. Overall rather 1 dimensional.

  • 2007 Château Cascadais Corbières

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Corbières

    Blend of Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Mourvedre & Cinsault

    Nose: A rather woody nose with some mineral and medicinal notes. Not a very good start.

    Taste: Rather light and easy going but with enough fruit flavours to make it tasty; blackcurrants and pepper. Some light tannin grip but overall rather simple and easy quaffing red wine.

  • 2008 Domaine Thunevin-Calvet Cuvée Constance

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Côtes du Roussillon Villages

    Nose: Rather appealing garrigue nose with dried herbs and nice red fruit

    Taste: Rather nice earthy flavours of tobacco, smoke, olives along with some red fruit but a touch of alcohol spiking on the finish. Overall quite delicious, but may not be worth the money.

  • 2008 Mas Cal Demoura Coteaux du Languedoc L'Infidèle

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Coteaux du Languedoc

    Nose: Bursting nose of candied red fruits, strawberry jam and fresh herbs. Quite exciting.

    Taste: Well-integrated structure, nice balance. Good luscious fruit and mid palate. Still rather primary and finishes a tad thin. Overall still rather delicious. Nice Languedoc wine, but may not be worth the price.
