    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard

    Bright red fruit, quite a nice surprise for a 25-year-old Villages level wine. Nice floral notes, mostly rose petal, as well as some simple spice. Very balanced for its age, this still showed some energy and backbone, also surprising for its age and the general quality of the 1980 vintage. Moderate length and finish.

  • 1990 Domaine Leroy Pommard Les Vignots 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard

    Very ripe dark fruit, showing the character of the 1990 vintage. Fruit is still quite primary with lots of intense fruit and a fair amount of baking spice. Very good structure has enough acidity and tannins that I think this wine will last and evolve nicely over a long life, probably another 15 years.

    Big dark fruit with good dried herbs and spices. Moderate length and fruit intensity. Probably closing in on its peak.

  • 2001 Domaine Leroy Pommard Les Vignots 89 Points

    Bright red fruit on both nose and palate. Good combination of strawberry with good spice. Acidity is a bit prominent today, I think this wine will be better in nother 3-5 years as it integrates a little more.

  • 2002 Comte Armand Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux 92 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru

    Intense dark color and aromatics. Good array of fruits, mostly dark - black cherry and blackberry - with some red cherry as well on the finish. Tons of structure and minerailty, this will continue to get better for another decade+ and last for decades after that. Very elegant spice comes out on finish.

    Nice simple, subtle fruit, although slightly hidden behind the wine's structure. Fruit may be shut down for me, i think it should be more interesting in another 5+ years as secondary components emerge.

  • 1993 Domaine de Courcel Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens 87 Points

    Started very closed on nose with little fruit and some vegetal notes. Reasonable red fruit on palate, with some interesting spice. Same red fruit came out on nose after about an hour in glass. Very tight and structured, I think this will get better as the tannins soften and hopefully the fruit will still contribute some interesting character.

    Old and not particularly enjoyable, but still interesting. All secondary and tertiary, this still had some of the more harsh structure that often makes Pommard a challenging wine.
