White, rosé, red, still, pétillant, sparkling, dry, off-dry, medium sweet, sweet - a huge diversity of wine styles is produced along the banks of France's longest river. The focus of the tasting was on the rising stars and latest developments in this fascinating region.
This tasting was tutored by Loire Valley expert Lindsay Oram.

Significant colour change to a garnet hue. Medium to low intensity and not bright. Wonderfully developed nose - cedar wood, polish, animal notes and savoury. Dry, smooth and velvety, earthy with red fruit still present on the palate.

2005 Domaine François Cotat Sancerre Les Monts Damnés 89 Points
France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
Straw colour with just a hint of green. Great nose, not classic Sb at all. Grassy and herbaceous with aniseed and minerality. Dry but with a great rush of sweet fruit on the start. Quite textured, oil and honey but with the herby grassy notes following though to the long finish.

2006 Domaine de Bellivière Coteaux du Loir L'Effraie 89 Points
France, Loire Valley, Coteaux du Loir
Golden hue. Clear and bright. Honey and shoe polish on the nose with a waxiness. Ripe peach or even some tropical notes underneath. Honeyed on the palate. Feels medium acid but this is probably due to the amazing sweetness of the fruit. Long and mineral and dry on the finish.
