Flight 1 - Canapes: (1 Note)

Country style pork pâté with crostini and mustard; cod croquettes with tarragon aïoli; Alsacienne tart flambé with caramelized onions, lardoons and ricotta

Flight 2 - 1st Course: (1 Note)

Mussels in white wine, garlic and parsley

  • 2003 Domaine Guillemot-Michel Mâcon-Villages Quintaine 89 Points

    France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Villages

Medium lemon in colour. Notes of soft lemon and tropical fruits with hints of coconut. Medium body with lower acid and a medium length finish. This could use more acid to freshen up the ripe/round profile of this wine but still a very enjoyable wine. Drinking well right now. Very good.

Flight 3 - 2nd Course: (2 Notes)

Pacific Snapper with warm potatoes, arugula and pea puree

  • 2000 Domaine Rémi Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Light to medium lemon in colour. Pronounced nose of cheesy funk, nuts and lemon with a little bit of floral and minerality coming through. In the mouth this is medium to full bodied with a weighty and rounder mouth feel. Flavours of lemon, smoky oak and hints of tropical fruit on the lengthy finish. While there isn’t a boat load of acid here, there is enough to keep the wine well-balanced. Drinking very well right now. Excellent.

  • 2000 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Fresh nose offering minerality, lemon, oak and hints of floral. Not as pronounced on the nose as the Jobard Genevrières was and this also has a much lighter and brighter profile. In the mouth it’s less weighty but there is quite a bit oak coming through which unfortunately overpower some of the lemon and steal flavours. It remains quite fresh despite the heavy oak. A very nice wine but lacks the complexity and balance of the Jobard Genevrières. Very good.

Flight 4 - 3rd Course: (2 Notes)

Tenderloin with potato gratin and glazed carrots and red wine shallot jus

  • 1997 Christian L. Remoissenet Mazis-Chambertin 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru

Served blind. Great spice on the nose (which had me thinking Vosne) with developing notes of cherries and red currants. In the mouth this has great acidity with flavours of red fruits and a long finish. Tannins are fairly subtle but they still show some firmness. The nose started to close up after around 15-20min in the glass although the palate stayed open for the business. Excellent.

  • 1997 Christian L. Remoissenet Bonnes Mares 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

Served blind. Beautiful nose of underbrush and spice with notes of developing red fruits and hints of leather. Soft and delicate on the palate with resolved tannins and ample acidity give this wine a light and silky mouthfeel. Flavours of raspberries, cherries and earth and finishes long. This is drinking the best of these there 97s. Excellent.

Flight 5 - 4th Course: (1 Note)

Cheese platter with assorted condiments

  • 1997 Christian L. Remoissenet Grands-Echezeaux 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru

Served blind. This was the darkest of the three Remoissenet Grand Crus. Pronounced nose of dark fruit with hints of cedar and spice. This actually smelt a little bit like mature Bordeaux. In the mouth this is by far the biggest and weightiest of the reds tonight with intense flavours of dark fruits and spice, lots of firm tannins and great acidity. This wine has a lot of everything and seems to be the least Burgundian of these three 97s. A masculine wine that needs at least 5 more years. Very good. 89+

Vanilla crème brûlée

  • 1999 Château Guiraud 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

No formal notes. Lots of saffron, tropical fruit and acidity. Well-balanced and not overly sweet. Drinks well now and will keep developing a long time further. Excellent. 90+
