Introduction

Tasting with Oenologist Francois Duvivier. My first visit to this Domaine with beautiful grounds. A picnic here would be a thrill.

  • 2009 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Bourgogne

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

    Barrel tasting at Domaine. Pure, clean ripe fruit. Completely balanced and lovely already, this will most likely be a great young drinking wine from d'Angerville but has the structure to last a decade+. I don't have a lot of experience with this wine, but it reminds me much of the 1999, which is still drinking nicely. Classic, without being rustic.

  • 2009 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

    Barrel tasting at Domaine. I know this is relatively new to the d'Angerville lineup, so my first time ever for this wine. Dark fruit with reasonable spice, but stuck behind some big tannins right now. Fruit was probably the darkest of the d'Angerville lineup and this was also probably the least accessible.

  • 2009 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

    Barrel tasting at Domaine. Spice and dark fruit on the nose, more red fruit on the palate. Nice spice, with a bit of power unfolding on the finish. In contrast with the Angles tasted just moments before, Caillerets might have been the most accessible of the d'Angerville 1er lineup, which might be expected given vines are mostly 10-15 years old.

  • 2009 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Les Fremiets

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

    Barrel tasting at Domaine. Lots of red fruit on nose with a hint of anise. Flavors also showcase red fruit, with plenty of spice and coca. Dense tannins for a Volnay, the power is consistent with the vineyard sitting on the Pommard border. At same time, acidity and minerality give this wine a more energetic and fresh mouth feel than the big tannins would normally imply. Long, powerful spicy finish. Probably will need the most time of the d'Angerville lineup.

  • 2009 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Champans

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

    Barrel tasting at Domaine. Big red fruit on nose and palate. Aromatics are also nicely floral. Fruit flavors are nicely complemented by some anise, dried thyme, and cocoa. Really big and also nicely integrated. Great texture and minerailty on finish. For me, a clear #2 in the d'Angerville 2009 lineup after the Ducs, but this will drink better young

  • 2009 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

    Barrel tasting at Domaine. Great floral aromatics with perhaps less red fruit on the nose than on the palate. Lots of spice and minerailty provide the most excitement for me today. From barrel the tannin and acidity hide the fruit a bit, but this wine has an explosive finish. This might not be the best d'Angerville wine to drink young, but I expect it will be the best, as usual, once a decade passes.

  • 2009 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Meursault 1er Cru Santenots

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

    Barrel tasting at Domaine. Once past the initial blast of CO2, there was quite ripe fruit on nose and first taste, lots of minerality and texture come out on long finish. This will be a fun near-term wine starting around 2013.
