Introduction

Wonderful relaxing dinner at Ma Cuisine after a tough Monday spent tasting mostly 2009s at Mugnier, Cathiard, Lignier-Michelot, Bachelet and Olivier Bernstein.

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2008 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Great young Chablis, this kept getting better and better in the glass over an hour at dinner. OK, it didn't quite last an hour. Powerful flavors of apple and pear that lingered in the mouth, which was helped by great minerailty and acidity. Still a baby, this was just amazing as a food wine.

  • 2000 Christophe Roumier Charmes-Chambertin 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

Absolutely sensational right now, a great comparison with its 2002 counterpart tonight. This wine is charming today with lots of spice on the nose and palate with really elegant red fruit from start to finish. Good floral character might come from the Roumier style and small amounts of whole cluster. Not the most dense wine, with only moderate acidity and length, this is another example of how well 2000s are showing today.

  • 2002 Christophe Roumier Charmes-Chambertin Aux Mazoyeres 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

Mostly primary fruit on the nose with some good floral notes and a bit of mushroom emerging near the end. Fruit was a bit shut down for now, I wish we had more time to decant. Very intriguing finish showed really good spice. More complex than the Roumier 2000 Charmes-Chambertin at dinner as well, but not providing as much pleasure right now.
