Introduction
Scott Larsen, owner of Maverick Wine Co., was on hand to talk about and present a few German wines from his portfolio. We had a rather small group this month, which provided an intimate setting to listen to Scott, and share his passion for German wines.
2008 Friedrich Becker Pinot Noir 85 Points
Germany, Pfalz
Light ruby color. Aromas of cherry and clove, spice and white pepper, with a subtle funky/earthy undertone. Light-bodied, with cherry, spice and red berry tones on the palate. A bit hollow through the midpalate, turning austere on the finish. $19.95.

2010 Hans Wirsching Silvaner Dry 86 Points
Germany, Franken
Pale straw color with a green tint. Notes of honeysuckle, peach blossoms, grapefruit and citrus; turning towards tropical fruit and melon as it warms in the glass. Flavors of citrus, peaar and quince with softened acidity. $20.95.

Deep golden straw color. Aromas of butterscotch, pear and petrol. Medium-bodied, with a rich texture and flavors of tropical fruit, pineapple and sweet tea. More advanced than I would have expected; perhaps not a pristine bottle. $42.95.
