  Medium yellow. Slightly aromatic. Green apple fruit. Medium to light body with citric, mineral finish.

• 2008 Château de Gourgazaud Minervois

  France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Minervois

  Medium ruby. Licorice and earth. Some gentle sweetness of fruit, lively acidity and admirable complexity for a $12 bottle. Heck of a wine for the price, and truth be told, my favorite red of the tasting, trumping more ambitious, expensive wines.

• 2009 Domaine La Condamine L'Evêque Côtes de Thongue

  Very deep color. Faint pine needle scent. Neutral, tannic and not very lively. Vaguely Bordeaux-like.

  Medium center, light edge. Light red fruit. Slightly berryish quality. Good acidity. Earthy finish. Lacks mid-palate feel and concentration.

  Light, almost Pinot-like. High acid, neutral fruit. Short, not one of my favorites.

• 2007 Domaine d'Aupilhac Mont Baudile Le Carignan

  Dark and thick. Full of blackberry and penetrating acids, but more tannin than fruit. It does have a nice mouth feel and very good length. Not too much fun now; maybe it's just closed.
