Came across to me as austere and very Burgundian -- minerally and crisp with apple and pineapple. Perhaps it develops the richness described by other reviewers after decanting or time in the glass. Excellent.
Tart cherry fruit over some spicy woody notes. Tannins suggest waiting a couple of years. Somewhat reminiscent of a light Italian red like Chianti. Should be a good food wine.
A bit closed now, but shows great promise. Complex jammy black fruit is in the background right now, but there's lots of structure and good acidity. Should be a good food wine once it opens up.

Earlier drinking than the 09 Lytton Springs. Big jammy red fruits and characteristic zin spice. Some tannic astringency at the end. Sort of like a combination of Lytton and Pagani.
As delightful now as it was in March, though it does show some slightly rough tannins on the finish. I expect this to close down soon and become unapproachable for several years.
Poured from magnum. I hate to be the odd man out here, but I found little to rave about. The nose was very mushroomy and fungal, with some leather as well. On the palate the wine was thin and acidic with red currant fruit in the background. Nice soft tannins consistent with a wine of this age. I never would have guessed this was an aged Monte Bello. Very disappointing.
