2006 Vincent Dancer Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Wine tasting. Shows the vintage very well. Ripe, but with good white flower aromatics that keep this from seeming overripe. Flavor of peaches and some apple near finish, good energy level, but still most likely a wine to enjoy young.

2007 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Folatières 91 Points

Wine tasting. Floral nose with some orchard fruit as well.Flavors of apple and pears to start, then lemon peel on finish, accompanied by great minerality and acidity. A Burgundy it you like linear, crisp style, this wasn't as much a crowd favorite as it was a personal favorite today. Should age nicely.

2007 Benjamin Leroux Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Cave des Ducs 90 Points

Wine tasting. Very "Volnay" on nose with lots of red fruit and good floral elements. Spice is more pronounced on palate than the nose, with really elegant red cherry and strawberry flavors. Good structure and acidity help provide good texture as well as lift on the finish. Nicely done.

2006 Serafin Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 86 Points

Wine tasting. Dark fruit on nose with an earthy, forest floor aspect to it. Same ripe dark fruit on palate, followed by sharp tannins that seem slightly awkward with ripe fruit. Seemed a bit off center today.

Wine tasting. Black cherry and elements of roast meat on nose. Black cherry and boysenberry flavors, good tannins, very good acidity and minerality. Showcases Gevrey well. Very good density and textures for a Villages level, this wine should age nicely.

Wine tasting. Dark fruit, very clean and pure. Moderate weight and density, this wine is a successful 2007 without trying to over-extract more concentration than the vintage could successfully offer. Will easily drink well for 5+ years.

Wine tasting. Red and black cherry on nose with meaty spice. Same fruit comes through on palate, great density, great textures. Great spice comes through on finish. Incredibly clean and pure Gevrey flavors, this will certainly evolve into an exceptional wine, really showing CSJ at its essence.

Wine tasting. Big fruit on nose and palate with good spice, but some coarse tannins that I'm not sure will really integrate seamlessly. Others liked this far more than I did today.

Wine tasting. Big fruit, backward in the NSG style. Also showed very rustic with lots of structure that wasn't necessarily complementing the other raw materials today.

2007 Domaine Anne Gros Echezeaux Les Loachausses 88 Points

Wine tasting. Red and black cherry on nose with some interesting spice. Same flavor profile comes through on palate. Not showing the fruit density I'd expect from a top Echezeaux producer, but I have to remember this is Anne Gros' first vintage with this vineyard. Slightly too acidic on finish for the level of fruit.

Wine tasting. Lots of red fruit on nose with modest spice, better floral elements. Flavor of raspberry and red cherry, but slightly muted and lost behind the wine's tannins and acidity. This is a nice and charming wine, but not showing as well as I've come to expect from young Anne Gros Richebourg. But at the same time, there is a good amount of solid extract so I am holding out hope this will put on weight in the next few years, bringing out more fruit and spice. I look forward to trying this again in 2 or 3 years.

2007 Olivier Bernstein Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers 89 Points

Wine tasting. Spice and wild strawberry fruit on nose, with definite signs of oak. Palate evolves towards more black fruit with equally good spice. Tannins and acidity provide good backbone for aging vs many 2007s. Powerful on finish.

2007 Olivier Bernstein Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots 93 Points

Wine tasting. Probably the most interesting and evolving wine today. This started out muted and even clunky, with good red fruit, followed by spice but lots of awkward tannins and a shrill ending. Not a good start, some people thought perhaps the bottle was flawed. By the end of the tasting (well near the end, this was long since finished by the actual end), this might have been the best wine. Raspberry and strawberry aromas with great spice from fruit and oak (a bit too much oak for right now). Dense wild fruit on palate with really sensational spice, with the tannins and acid coming together with the fruit for a balanced, energetic finish. This had been decanted early, so probably took 4+ hours in decanter to start showing well.

Wine tasting. Black cherry and boysenberry on nose with exceptional fresh herbs and spice. Flavors continue precisely from the nose, with lots of ripe fruit showing power and concentration. Great finish assisted by elegant tannins and great acidity. I believe this is the first vintage made with the Lamarche daughter in charge. Impressive - this might be better than her father's excellent 2005. Overall this was my favorite wine today, with the possible exceptions of Olivier Bernstein's unusual chameleon - 2007 Vosne-Romanee les Suchots and of course, Vogue 2007 Musigny.

Wine tasting. Black fruit on nose with some good baking spice coming through as well. Black cherry and blackberry flavors with lots of minerality and great texture. Very persistent to long, fruit-driven finish. I just bought a few bottles and will cellar until 2013 at the earliest, but no hurry to open for at least a decade after that.

2007 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 94 Points

Wine tasting. Red cherry, black cherry and really charming spice on the nose. Palate shows same fruit profile but not very accessible for now. Lots of tannin and acidity, more than I'm finding in other 2007s, but of course this is Vogue Musigny, not just any other 2007. Really impressive finish brings everything together, but this is the rare 2007 that really will require lots of time and patience.
