Introduction

Overall a great tasting. A lot of the '04/'05 Burnello's/Barolo's I tasted were flawed, they all tasted like they were heat damaged.

Flight 1 (8 Notes)

  • 2007 Antinori Tignanello 92 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

    Ruby red in color. Open on the nose with notes of dark berries, mocha and spice. On the palate this wine is still so young, big dusty tannins and a long finish. This needs a long decant or more time in the cellar to really shine.

  • 2007 Tenuta Guado al Tasso (Antinori) Bolgheri Superiore 93 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri, Bolgheri Superiore

    Dark purple coloring. At first whiff I got lots of vegital notes, which was the cab franc coming out a bit. I also got cherries some mint and eartyness. On the palate the green herbal notes were very present which kind of covered up a lot of the fruit.

    I revisite this an hour later and boy what a difference an extra hour made. The Green notes had blown off and left a nice nose and plate of mocha coffee, cherries and earth. Long finish with big tannins. Anyone popping open one of these should decant..decant...decant this bad boy.

  • 2007 Bibi Graetz Testamatta Toscana IGT 91 Points

    Very dark purple in color. Tight on the nose with notes of oak and dark berries. On the palate this wine is very tightly wound with harsh dusty tannins that I just couldn't get past. All I got was dry cherries and oak. This was a pop and pour at a retail tasting, this wine really needs time in a decanter to open up.

  • 2007 Luce della Vite Lucé 93 Points

    Dark purple color. Awesome nose of cherries, vanilla, mint and mocha. The palate was lush with velvety tannins. Waves of dark fruit, spice and chocolate. Such a great wine right now. Long finish. SS 93+

  • 2005 Cantina Valpantena Amarone della Valpolicella Torre del Falasco 90 Points

    A lovely Amarone, not as complex as others I've had but very enjoyable to drink now. Dark ruby in color. Nice licorice and plum notes on the nose. Nice smooth tannins revealing licorice, cherries, plums and a nice leather/eathyness notes.

    I thought this was a very average barolo. Cherries and floral notes with some spice and leather notes.
