    Incredibly chalky with nice floral and herbal tones. Love the precision and freshness of this wine...

  • 2008 Château Thivin Brouilly 89 Points

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Brouilly

    Just a hair less focused and polished than the Cote de Brouilly. Had a wonderfully aromatic nose with lavender and spice - palate has a nice combination of red berries and chalk. Was a big fan of this.

  • 2008 Château Thivin Côte de Brouilly 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Côte de Brouilly

    Great red berry nose with subtle mushroom and spice. Could have easily passed for a 1er Vosne. This had nice depth and was incredibly focused. Open for business with nice floral, mineral and red fruit tones on the palate. With all the hype around 2009, this is a sneaky wine that gives the 2009 a run for its money.

    Dense nose of brown sugar, smoke, and dried herbs. Palate wasn't as dense, but had an oaky character with charcoal, subtle chocolate, and dried herbs.

  • 2009 Altesino Rosso di Montalcino

    Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino

    Sweet kirsch, brambles, and warm spices on the nose. Palate was incredibly smooth with dense mocha, cloves and charcoal.

  • 2006 Altesino Brunello di Montalcino

    Almost too polished...like looking at a air-brushed model. Palate was smooth with plenty of weight. Dark mocha, espresso, and charcoal.

  • 2004 Altesino Brunello di Montalcino

    Another incredibly polished, smooth Sangiovese. Lots of coffee, dried herbs, lavender and chocolate on the palate with dark fruits.

  • 2004 Altesino Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

    Another example of a wine that comes across almost too polished. For such a young wine this already seems pretty well resolved with chocolate, dark berries, tar and spice.

  • 2004 Altesino Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli

    In contrast to the other Brunello's from Altesino this was a different beast. I was greeted with an brick wall of tannin...reminded me of chewing on a wool sweater. It had some dark berry and mocha tones behind the wall, but it was really hard to assess this given it's current state.

  • 2006 Altesino Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli

    More approachable than the 2004 Montosoli. This had a tarter fruit profile, with interesting herbal undertones - I was shocked how reserved this was after the 2004.

  • 2007 Altesino Palazzo Altesi Toscana IGT

    This was drank after a sampling of the 2004 and 2006 Brunello's from Altesino. Compared to those monsters, this was medium-bodied and almost elegant in comparison. While still showing some typical mocha and herbs, this had a lighter fruit profile...cranberry maybe, instead of black raspberry in the brunello's.

    Nice minerality with fresh melons and white florals. Straightforward and enjoyable.

  • 2007 Zenato Lugana Sergio Zenato Riserva

    Despite being their higher end cuvee, I think the only difference I could sense was it saw more time in oak. The wine was a bit gloppy with butter and smoke. No thanks.
